Rector’s Day, 4th May

In accordance with the decision of Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, 4th May is Rector’s Day for the entire university.

“Miasteczko na Styku Kultur – Cultural Hot Spot” – call for ideas

Around 4,000 international students and doctoral candidates are studying at the University of Warsaw. Most come from Ukraine, Belarus, China and Turkey, but also from India, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. On 21st May, the University is organising the "Miasteczko na Styku Kultur – Cultural Hot Spot" festival for the fifth time. The call for ideas is now open.

4th Edition of the Scholarship to Start

Applications for the 4th edition of the “Scholarship to Start” programme at the University of Warsaw are being accepted until 24th April. The scholarship is intended for first-year students and doctoral candidates.

31 scholarships from the MNiSW for UW students

The Minister of Science and Higher Education (PL: MNiSW) has awarded scholarships to 402 students for outstanding achievements in academia, the arts or sport. Among the recipients are 31 students representing the University of Warsaw.

The UW in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026

In this year’s Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings by Subject, the University of Warsaw was ranked in 27 disciplines. Among the highest-ranked are Classics and Ancient History as well as Modern Languages.

Poland and ASEAN – an opportunity for growth

The potential for cooperation between Poland and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) – comprising 11 countries and 700 million citizens – is enormous. The University of Warsaw co-organised the “Poland-ASEAN Dialogue” conference at the Sejm of the Republic of Poland.

Publication in “Nature”

Prof. Bogdan Jaroszewicz of the Białowieża Geobotanical Station at the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw, is a co-author of an international study whose findings have been published in the journal “Nature”. The study shows that vegetation in Europe is not keeping pace with the rate of climate warming.

The latest excavation season at ancient Nea Paphos

A stamped vice dating from the 2nd century BC, a fragment of a previously unknown stylobate, around 350 architectural decorative elements and other interesting finds are the result of work carried out by archaeologists from the University of Warsaw conducting excavations in Cyprus. The UW Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaelogy has summarised the findings of a joint expedition by the University

The food and culture zone is soon to be opened at BUW

Final preparations are underway at the University of Warsaw Library (BUW) for the opening of a new food and culture zone. This is the largest university space where visitors will not only be able to eat, but also organise meetings, networking sessions and cultural events.

Revitalisation of the cellars at Casimir Palace

Earthworks are currently underway on the west façade of the Casimir Palace, aimed at preparing the building’s 17th-century cellars for renovation and conversion work. In the future, there are plans to create a revitalised space in the building’s basement that will be open to visitors.

6th Polish-British Science Forum at the UW

On 17th March, the 6th Polish-British Science Forum took place at the University of Warsaw’s Main Campus. The event brought together over 150 representatives from academia, public administration, research institutions and international organisations from Poland, the United Kingdom and Ukraine.

Agreement with the Polish Library in Paris Institute and the UW Medal for Prof. Paweł Rodak

On 6th March, in the Golden Hall of the Casimir Palace, a cooperation agreement was signed between the University of Warsaw, the Polish Library in Paris Institute, and the Association of the Polish Library Institute in Paris. Prof. Paweł Rodak was also awarded the UW Medal.
